When I’m sure that every square inch of my body has been cleaned, I drape myself into a towel and ring the access water out of my hair. Using a separate towel, I wipe the condensation off the mirror and take a long, hard look at myself.

I don’t look any different. But I feel strange. Like a part of me was buried tonight and a new version was born. Perhaps it’s because I was offered something for the first time in my life, a choice on what I wanted.

I exit the bathroom and find an oversized tee shirt and a pair of boxers freshly folded on the mattress. I slip into them quietly and fight with myself on the next move. I could go down there and face the boys in another awkward conversation, or I could climb into bed.
